Best VIN check in Poland 2026: 7 services ranked
We ranked the seven vehicle history services available for a car in Poland on what a buyer actually feels: the price and whether you can see it, how far the free official check gets you on its own, and what each one covers once a car has crossed the border.

The short answer
MrVIN is our pick for a used car in Poland in 2026: the same essential checks as the country's established names, real mileage, damage, theft and import history, from EUR 19.90 excluding VAT, with the price on the page and a free preview of the findings before you pay. historiapojazdu.gov.pl is free and genuinely enough on its own for a car with no life before Polish registration. autoDNA is the Polish incumbent with open pricing, carVertical covers the widest country list at one of the higher prices, Autobaza adds a summary generated by AI but only after you have paid, Automoli is a separate Polish service with public pricing, and CARFAX is strongest on a car with American history.
The ranking
-
EUR 19.90 to 24.90 excluding VATBest overall pick for a car with any life before Poland
MrVIN reports are built from official registries and licensed sources across more than 30 European countries, with import and registration history treated as a core check rather than an extra. The report covers what actually decides a used car purchase in Poland: real mileage over time, recorded damage with photos where available, theft flags, and where the car has actually lived before it ever reached a Polish registration.
Two things put it top of this list. The price, EUR 19.90 to 24.90 excluding VAT, is on the page before you type a VIN, and the free preview shows what the report actually found for your car before you pay for anything. Among the paid services on this list, none of the others show you the findings first.
-
historiapojazdu.gov.pl Free
Free and official, enough on its own for a car with no life before Poland
historiapojazdu.gov.pl is part of CEPiK 2.0, the country's central vehicle register, run by the Ministerstwo Cyfryzacji. It costs nothing and needs no account: enter the registration number, the 17 character VIN, and the date of first registration, and it returns the number of owners since the car's Polish registration, technical inspection dates with the odometer reading logged at each one, whether the inspection and the OC insurance are currently valid, theft or document status, and basic technical data.
Treat the PDF it produces as informational rather than an official document, and remember the one thing it was never built to see: anything from before the car's first Polish registration. Damage repaired privately, or claimed on a foreign insurer, sits outside that window entirely, whatever the report says.
-
autoDNA PLN 89.99
Honest public pricing and a long track record in Poland
autoDNA, a Polish service, has been in the vehicle history business for well over a decade and publishes its price openly: PLN 89.99 per report, with a three pack at PLN 204.99 that works out to PLN 68.33 each, valid for 90 days if you are checking more than one car. Its free check does not show the findings themselves, only which categories of data exist for the VIN.
For a shortlist of two or three cars, the pack changes the decision more than the brand does; for a single car, the one report price is the only number worth comparing against anything else on this list.
-
carVertical about EUR 25 to 40
The biggest brand, the price shown only at checkout
carVertical is the best known vehicle history brand active in Poland, with a polished product and one of the widest country lists of any service here. If the car came from a market the others barely reach, that width can be the deciding factor.
The price only appears once you reach checkout, typically about EUR 25 to 40 depending on country, and is often wrapped in a countdown discount. You only see the number after entering the VIN and starting checkout.
-
Autobaza
Polish service, priced by how much data it finds on your car
Autobaza is a Polish service whose price depends on how much data it actually finds for the car, so there is no fixed number to quote here. You buy the report after entering the VIN, its site describes no preview of the findings before you pay, and on top of the raw records it adds a summary of the findings generated by AI, which it calls Inteligentna Historia Pojazdu, meaning intelligent vehicle history.
That makes it the hardest service on this list to budget for in advance: you learn the price only after entering the VIN.
-
Automoli EUR 20.99
A separate Polish service, priced on its international site
Automoli is run by AutoISO, a Polish company separate from autoDNA. Its price, EUR 20.99, is the figure on its international site; its Polish site may quote złoty, so compare the checkout total.
Treat it as a second name for a similar report rather than a second, independent opinion on the car. It is a reasonable pick if you already prefer AutoISO's data and simply want a different checkout page.
-
CARFAX EUR 39.99
The best known name in vehicle history, strongest on American imports
CARFAX built the vehicle history category in North America, and its European site is strongest on exactly that: a car with US or Canadian history, where the American records are the ones that matter and the Polish and European services are thinnest. For a car that crossed the Atlantic rather than arriving from Germany, it is often the service holding records nobody else here has.
A single report costs EUR 39.99, the highest single price on this list. As with every paid service here except MrVIN, you commit before you see what was actually found for your VIN.

How we ranked them
Every paid service on this list runs the checks that matter for a car in Poland: odometer readings over time, damage and accident records, theft databases, and cross border registration history. The free official check runs a narrower set, limited to what happened while the car carried Polish plates. So the ranking turns on what actually differs: the single report price and whether you can see it before checkout, how much of the findings you see before paying, and how well each service follows a car across the border, because the border is exactly where mileage and damage history tends to go missing in Poland.
Prices and features come from each service's own price list and product pages. MrVIN publishes this page, so treat our first place as a claim you can check in ten minutes: open the sample report, run a free preview, and compare the checkout totals for a Polish VIN yourself.
Every price on this page carries the date it was last checked, shown under the ranking, because a comparison without a date attached is worth very little by the time you read it.
historiapojazdu.gov.pl: what the free check shows
Poland is one of the countries where the state already runs a free vehicle history service, and any honest ranking has to start there.
historiapojazdu.gov.pl is part of CEPiK 2.0, run by the Ministerstwo Cyfryzacji. It costs nothing, needs no login, and takes three details to run: the registration number, the 17 character VIN, and the date of first registration.
The free check shows
- Number of owners since the car's Polish registration
- Technical inspection dates with the odometer reading at each one
- Whether the inspection and the OC insurance are currently valid
- Theft or document status
- Basic technical data
The free check never shows
- Anything from before the car's first Polish registration
- Damage repaired privately, with no insurance claim
- Damage claimed on a foreign insurer
- Theft or finance flags recorded outside Poland
- Which countries the car lived in before Poland
The report historiapojazdu.gov.pl generates is informational rather than an official document. It is still a legitimate first step, produced directly from state records, but it is not the kind of paper a dispute gets settled with.
That combination, wide on the car's Polish life and silent on everything before it, is common to any free government service and is not a criticism of it. It does exactly what a domestic registry can do, and nothing it was never designed to do.
The market: imports, cofanie licznika and the words worth knowing
Poland's used car market runs on imports. In 2025, according to Samar, 948,461 used passenger cars and light commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes were registered from import, 2.0 percent fewer than in 2024; passenger cars alone accounted for 855,587 of that total. Most arrive from Germany.
Mileage matters more to a Polish buyer than in many markets precisely because so many cars arrive with a story rather than a paper trail. A private import can be registered in Poland with nothing in the file to contradict whatever number sits on the dashboard, which is exactly what makes recorded readings from the car's earlier life worth seeking out specifically, rather than trusting the odometer on its own.
cofanie licznika, odometer rollback, is the market's best known fear, and the law now treats it as a serious matter rather than a technicality. Under Kodeks karny article 306a, in force since 25 May 2019, altering an odometer or interfering with how it records distance carries three months to five years in prison, the same sentence for whoever orders it done. A lesser case can instead draw a fine, restriction of liberty, or up to two years in prison.
Buyers looking at an imported car face two more worries a purely Polish check cannot settle: a stolen car that was never registered as such in Poland, and a VIN cloned from a different, legitimate vehicle. Neither shows up until a service actually checks the number against records outside Poland, which is precisely the gap a cross border report is built to close.
The words worth knowing before you start: numer VIN or numer nadwozia for the VIN itself, raport historii pojazdu for a history report, przebieg for mileage, przegląd techniczny for the periodic technical inspection carried out at a stacja kontroli pojazdów (SKP), and OC for the liability insurance every registered car in Poland has to carry.
Where coverage actually breaks: the border
historiapojazdu.gov.pl is built around the Polish registration, so it begins on the day the car was first registered in Poland. A car that spent eight years in Germany before that has eight years of mileage readings and any damage history sitting in a different country's systems entirely, and none of it crosses over automatically just because the car did.
That handover, the exact point where a German or Belgian registration becomes a Polish one, is where recorded history most often goes missing rather than where it gets checked and found clean. The Polish paperwork can look completely blank on a car whose earlier life was anything but.
Damage repaired privately, and settled in cash rather than through an insurer, leaves no trace in any registry in any country, whether the car stayed in Poland its whole life or crossed three borders to get here. No service on this page, MrVIN included, can see a repair that nobody ever reported.
Gaps in the inspection history are the other common warning sign on an imported car: a missing year or two between technical inspections abroad often means the car was off the road, exported, or simply not tested that year under a different country's inspection cycle. A report that shows the gap plainly is worth more than one that quietly skips over it.
Which foreign records actually surface depends on which registries and insurers a given service has a paying relationship with, not on how many countries appear on its marketing page. A service that reaches deep into German records, the country behind most Polish imports, is worth more here than one with a longer country list and little depth where this car actually lived.
How to check a car in Poland, step by step
Five steps, in an order that spends nothing until the car in front of you has actually earned it.
- Find the VIN numer nadwozia is stamped in the engine bay or under the windscreen on most cars, and printed on the registration document. Confirm all three match before you go any further.
- Run historiapojazdu.gov.pl first it costs nothing, and on a car that has never left Poland it may already answer most of what matters, owners, inspection mileage, insurance and theft status.
- Preview a paid report on the same VIN if the car was imported, a preview shows whether meaningful records were actually found for its life before Poland, before you commit to paying anyone.
- Buy one full report, on the car you are actually about to make an offer on, from whichever service the preview showed held real records for that VIN.
- Book an independent mechanic before you hand over a deposit a report reads records, it does not listen to the engine or check the clutch.
A full report from EUR 19.90 excluding VAT is the sensible spend once historiapojazdu.gov.pl has told you what it can, and the car's life before Poland is still an open question. On a car that has always been Polish, the free check alone may genuinely be enough.
None of this replaces the paperwork registration itself requires. It happens earlier, while the car is still just a VIN and a listing, so that by the time you are standing at a Wydział Komunikacji with a folder of documents, the car's history is one thing you are no longer guessing about.
What none of these reports can tell you
Every service on this page, historiapojazdu.gov.pl and MrVIN included, checks records. None of them inspects the car. A report cannot tell you the clutch is nearly gone, or that a repair was done badly, only that somebody once wrote something down about the vehicle, or that nobody did.
That gap matters most for damage. A record exists only where an insurer paid a claim, an inspection station logged a defect, or a registry recorded a write off. Damage repaired privately and paid for in cash, in Poland or abroad, leaves no trace in any database, at any price, from any provider on this page.
So read a clean report correctly: it means nothing bad was recorded, not that nothing bad happened. It is one of three checks that matter, alongside a test drive and an hour with an independent mechanic. It is the only one of the three you can run before you travel to see the car.
That is worth spelling out for a Polish buyer, because cofanie licznika is caught by comparing readings, not by anyone reporting it. A rollback shows up only when a report holds an earlier reading, often one taken abroad, that is higher than the number on the dashboard today. If no such reading exists anywhere, no report can contradict the odometer, which is why the countries a service covers matter more than how its report looks.
How to check this ranking yourself in ten minutes
We rank ourselves first on our own page, so treat it as a claim rather than a finding. It is checkable, and this is the fastest way to check it. Start with historiapojazdu.gov.pl on a Polish plate, since it costs nothing and takes a minute to run.
Then open the sample report each paid service publishes and compare what is actually filled in, rather than how the page is designed. A sample is chosen to flatter the product, so the useful question is what is missing even from the best case each one puts forward.
Finally, take each service to checkout for a Polish VIN without paying, and write down the total. autoDNA and Automoli publish theirs upfront; carVertical and Autobaza only show the real number once you are further in. The price on a homepage is not always the number waiting for you at the end, which is why the prices on this page carry the date they were checked.
The same test works on the free option. Run historiapojazdu.gov.pl on a car whose history you already know, your own or a family member's, and see whether what comes back matches what you already know before you trust it on a car you do not.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best VIN check for a car in Poland?
For most cars in Poland, MrVIN: the same essential checks as the market's bigger names, real mileage, damage, theft and import history, from EUR 19.90 excluding VAT, with the price visible upfront and a free preview of the findings before you pay. If the car has never left Poland, historiapojazdu.gov.pl alone may already be enough, and it costs nothing to try first.
Is historiapojazdu.gov.pl enough on its own?
For a car that has always been registered in Poland, often yes: it shows owners, inspection mileage, insurance and theft status for nothing. For an imported car it is not, because it only covers the car's life on Polish plates, and the years before that are exactly what a buyer usually needs to know.
How much does a full vehicle history report cost in Poland?
MrVIN starts at EUR 19.90 excluding VAT with the price shown before checkout. autoDNA publishes PLN 89.99 per report, Automoli EUR 20.99 on its international site, and CARFAX EUR 39.99 for a single European report. carVertical and Autobaza do not show their price until further into checkout.
Where do most imported cars in Poland come from?
Most often from Germany. In 2025, according to Samar, 948,461 used passenger cars and light commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes were registered from import into Poland, 2.0 percent fewer than the year before.
Is cofanie licznika, odometer rollback, illegal in Poland?
Yes. Under Kodeks karny article 306a, in force since 25 May 2019, altering an odometer or interfering with how it records distance carries three months to five years in prison, the same sentence for whoever orders it done. A lesser case can instead draw a fine, restriction of liberty, or up to two years in prison.
Why does MrVIN rank itself first on its own page?
Because we believe the comparison supports it, and we publish it where anyone can check: prices and features on this page come from each service's own pages, historiapojazdu.gov.pl is ranked on its own honest terms rather than left out, and MrVIN is the only paid service listed that shows you its findings for your VIN before asking for money.
